You have a laser hair removal appointment coming up and suddenly notice a cold sore on your lip. Even if your appointment is for your legs, underarms or bikini area, at inglow aesthetics we recommend postponing the treatment until the cold sore has completely healed.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and an active cold sore means the virus is currently active. Since laser hair removal is an elective treatment, we prefer to wait until the outbreak has passed and your body has had time to recover before continuing your sessions.

This also applies to the early stage of a cold sore. If you notice the familiar tingling, itching or burning sensation that usually appears before the blister, please contact us and reschedule your appointment rather than waiting to see whether the cold sore develops.

When can I have laser hair removal again?

You can return to your laser hair removal course once the cold sore has completely cleared and the skin has fully healed. There should be no blister, crust, irritation or broken skin remaining. Postponing one appointment will not mean starting your laser hair removal course again. We will simply adjust your next session accordingly.

If you regularly experience cold sores, especially if you are having laser hair removal on the face, please let your cosmetologist know before your treatment. Laser procedures around the face may trigger an outbreak in people who are prone to herpes, so it is useful for us to know your history before we begin.

At inglow aesthetics in Budapest, we prefer to take the cautious approach: if you have an active cold sore, wait until it has completely healed before your next laser hair removal session. If you are unsure whether the area has healed enough, contact us before your appointment and our team will advise you.
